Respect what you raise, not what you kill
Why is Zuckerberg killing animals if he wants to learn to respect and be thankful for what he eats? I’m puzzled. To “get involved” only at the very end of an animal’s life strikes me as misguided.
A farmer who is there when an animal is born and raises it with respect will develop a connection with the beast and feel sorrow, gratitude, and humility when ending its life. I don’t think there’s any way to short circuit that.
Detachment from the production process/lifecycle makes it easy to be negligent. One of the defining characteristics of modern times is that our daily lives are so far removed from the means and consequences of our industrial society.
